Creating a Healthy CRAWL SPACE
When it comes to creating a Healthy Crawl Space it can be broken down into five parts: Mold Removal, Waterproofing, Encapsulation, Humidity Control, and Insulation. We often come across mold growing in crawl spaces. There are a number of reasons why mold might start growing in a crawl space but the two biggest reasons are high humidity and moisture. We often see mold start growing in crawl spaces because there are no waterproofing systems installed. Since crawl spaces don't have a concrete floor like basements it allows water to travel underneath the foundation and flood the crawl space. The abundance of moisture from lack of waterproofing causes moisture problems resulting in wood rot and mold growth. We also often see humidity issues in the crawl space this is because a lot of the homes we inspect don't have a full-home dehumidifier. Since 40-60% of the air you breathe comes from your crawl space it is important to control that environment. A Healthy crawl space wouldn't be complete without being properly insulated and a full-encapsulation. Learn more about our specific solutions to turn your house a Healthy Home.

Our Solution for Waterproofing
Water intrusion is one of the biggest causes of mold in a crawl space. Unlike a basement, a crawl space doesn't have a concrete floor. This allows easy access for water to go right under your foundation footer and into your crawl space causing it to flood.
Our solution is to trap that water below your foundation footer by installing an interior french drainage system. The first step of installing our interior french drainage system is digging a trench below your foundation footer around the entire perimeter of the crawl space. After that, we backfill the trench with gravel install a perforated pipe, and connect it to a sump pump. This system will lead the water directly to the sump pump basin, where the sump pump will pump the water to the exterior of your home keeping your crawl space dry.
If you suspect you have a water intrusion problem in your crawl space, please don't panic. Give us a call and we can come out and perform an inspection. If it turns out you need a dewatering system in your crawl space reach out for professional assistance.
Why should you encapsulate your crawl space?
Did you know that between 40-60% of the air you breathe in your home comes from your crawl space? Unless your crawl space is encapsulated, you are breathing all the debris and dirt underneath your house. Crawl space encapsulations help control the environment by sealing underneath your house with heavy-duty plastic. This process helps improve the indoor air quality of your house ultimately making the air coming from underneath your home healthier to breathe. Another big benefit of crawl space encapsulations they help prevent pests and insect infestation by eliminating their ideal living conditions.

OuR SOLUTION FOR INSULATInG YOUR CRAWL SPACE
Installing adequate insulation is one of the solutions we are our clients for preventing mold. Insulation is a huge part of humidity and moisture control. If there is a lack of insulation in the crawl space it could cause fluctuations in temperature resulting in moisture and damage among your subfloor and floor joists.
Our solution is to insulate your crawl space foundation walls, and box sills with foam board insulation. We use foam board instead of the old method of batt insulation stuffed between the floor joists. The problem with using batt insulation is that when the crawl space changes temperatures or there is high humidity it traps moisture against the wood framing causing mold.
If you suspect you don't have enough insulation or if it needs to be replaced give us a call and we can come out and perform an inspection. If it turns out you need insulation services performed reach out for professional assistance.
